Our History

A.Alexander & Son (Electrical) Ltd was established in 1962 by Andrew Alexander and his business partner William Tawse, trading under the name Alexander and Tawse Ltd.

Our current chairman, James Alexander, joined his father Andrew in 1964 as an apprentice electrician. In 1975 as James took a more senior role when William retired, the company was then renamed A.Alexander & Son (Electrical) Ltd.

Stewart Alexander joined the business as an apprentice electrician in 2001, continuing the family tradition and is now our current Managing Director. The company has developed through the decades from its humble father and son origins to be a multi-disciplined national contractor, serving a spectrum of clients 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

In 2015 the company diversified, establishing a mechanical division to complement its existing skills and further meet the needs of our clients. This division is led by Bernard Diamond who was appointed to the board of directors in 2018.

Our strong rooted family foundation is apparent today in all aspects of our work and has enabled us to develop long standing relationships with customers and suppliers, some of which date back to our origin.

We are committed to offering a flexible approach to all our projects, backed with the experience and customer service you would expect with a company in business for over 57 years.

Our People

A.Alexander & Son (Electrical) Ltd directly employs over 50 staff from its head office in Glasgow. Our dedicated management team offers a diverse range of industry experience with customer service at the core of our business. As you would expect with a third generation family business, we view all our staff as an extended family which can be demonstrated by impressive staff retention and length of service figures

The company actively supports industry apprenticeship schemes and currently employs 15 apprentices across its electrical and mechanical divisions. All our staff regularly attend training courses keeping them up to date with the latest technical and safety standards.

We also made the decision to move into the mechanical services industry to keep up with the shifting demands of the modern market.

Domestic Electical Services

Just because we now take on large-scale commercial projects doesn’t mean we have abandoned our domestic services. Many of our clients, both existing and prospective, wanted the convenience and peace of mind in having the same contractor for both electrical and mechanical services. In 2015, we established our mechanical services division to complement the wide range of electrical services we already provide.
